Live Your Truth

I started on my journey of self-discovery a few years ago – consciously that is. I was always on this journey, I just didn’t know it. When I was growing up, my mother found the concept of being able to create your own destiny fascinating. I remember clearly one of her favourite teachers being Wayne Dyer. She would read books about this concept, listen to CDs in the car, watch talk-shows on it. If I look back, there was no escaping developing some sort of interest in getting to know my Self better.

As I grew older it became more important for me to define my beliefs and guiding principles. I started to read up on various schools of thought and somehow stumbled on videos of Wayne Dyer. There he was on the computer screen in front of me – the man that had been a big part of my mother’s outlook on life. Could his ideas and messages hold the same value for me? Well, there was only one way to find out…

So, I watched a few of his video clips, started reading his books and borrowed his audio CDs from my mom. Those who know me well, know that when I’m interested in something I go all out and true to form, I immersed myself in the teachings of Wayne (at this point I feel like I’m on a first-name basis with him) and similar thinkers .

I listened, I watched, I read and I started questioning. Could it be possible that I am in control of my personal world? Are my thoughts really the key to shaping my world? Will changing the way I think and perceive things allow me to achieve the sought after inner peace that we hear so much about?

This journey of self-discovery is not one that has a destination, which I quite like actually. It means that I’ll keep questioning, learning and growing. So far what I do know is that it is valuable for you to identify what your truth is and centre your thoughts, words and actions around this truth.

My truth is that love is always the answer – in any situation. No matter what the circumstances or actions of others, I want my thoughts, words and actions to be centered around love for myself, for others and for this beautiful world that we live in.

From this place of love, understanding is born, compassion, kindness and hope flourishes. I found that when I changed the way that I viewed the world, consciously chose the thoughts which served my truth, the world became a truly beautiful place. Don’t get me wrong, it still is a challenge sometimes but setting aside some me-time, even if it’s just a few minutes, once a day helps. This may be a time of reflection, praying or meditation which I find centres me.

This way of thinking has made an immense difference in the way that I live my life. I’m less stressed, I take things as they come (I have a tendency to be a bit of a control freak…okay, maybe a lot of a control freak!), I’m not as concerned about being right but rather more interested in being happy, I try to understand a situation and other points of view before responding (if a response is needed at all), most importantly for me though, I appreciate this life I’ve been given.

I don’t need to have all the answers to know that I am blessed and that at this moment, as in all the moments to come, I am everything I need to be. I am love.

Fix your mind on the truth

5 January 2015

…you need to go grocery shopping, pack in lunches, do the washing, schedule your car’s service, go to gym, call the bank, visit your mom, call so and so….does this sound familiar? Our lives can get extremely busy at times but if there’s one thing I know, it’s that if you are not living in your truth it is easy to get lost along the way. It’s important to know what feeds your soul, what you believe in, what you require from relationships etc. and to make sure that your decisions are aligned to this. Your truth is like your guiding star, the North on your compass. It keeps you from expending too much energy on things that don’t serve you. So be sure to look up every once in a while, take some time out and connect with what your truth is.

Fix your mind on the truth: You are good enough. You are beautiful. You are everything that you need to be at this moment – TM
